Years of Experience as a Business Analyst:
BAs with 2- 3 years of experience will focus on their day-to-day experience and how they work with team members and stakeholders—in addition, asking for scenario-based examples of how they delivered value on a project and generally focus on their requirement-gathering skills.
BAs with 4- 7 years of experience will focus on leadership skills, questions on self-sufficiency in managing their day-to-day work, and how they communicate to leadership and handle difficult situations or stakeholders. They are commonly looking for individuals who can grow into a senior or leadership role.
BAS, with ten years of experience looking for individuals who can lead other BAs and train them to improve their skills and knowledge base. Leadership skill questions are asked using scenarios based on their management and communication skills with team members they managed in their past organizations.
2. BA Skills Required on the Job Description: When reading the job description, they will highlight the essential skills set they require. For example, Agile methodology, writing user stories with clear acceptance criteria, UX design knowledge, Gap analysis, User Acceptance testing, etc. Practice and prepare scenario-based answers for when you used those skills in your past projects.
3. Specific Technology or Tool the Role will Require: When job descriptions highlight essential tools for the role like Jira, Lucidchart, Salesforce, Workday, Tableau, Confluence, Visio, etc. Time to refresh your memory on when you used the tool, how you used it, its benefits, and its results. They want to verify you have indeed used it, as it will be critical to your role. I recommend when you are not familiar with a tool, but are familiar with a similar tool, speak to it by highlighting how they are identical.
4. You are Knowledgeable in the Industry you are Applying to: If you are applying to the finance industry and have previous experience in that Industry. They will ask to know how knowledgeable you are, especially if it is vital to the project you will be working on.
